2015 Recap and Announcements

Hello Supporters!

The last six months for After the Last River have been incredible: we met our fundraising goal (thanks to you!) and were able to complete the film and tour with it widely before the election.

2015 RECAP

Since the end of the Indiegogo push this summer,  it’s been an amazing few months . We’ve hadimportant discussions and Q&A’s in northern communities – Attawapiskat First Nation, Weenusk First Nation, Thunder Bay, Yellowknife and Sudbury (three separate times!). We’ve also been warmly received at seven film festivals and were recognized with five awards, including the Best Canadian Feature at Planet in Focus, where the film also had the honour of opening the the festival. Rosie, one of the featured  community members in the film, came down for the screening and we took the opportunity to meet with NGOs and non-profits in Toronto. The film has also sparked engaged conversations on campuses in Montreal, Halifax and Ottawa through the Cinema Politica network and special private screenings in two college programs for indigenous students on community advocacy and environmental sustainability. To cap it all off, After the Last River was featured on the cover of the national documentary magazine, POV!

Also in the last few months, the new Liberal government has helped dramatically change the dialogue around indigenous and environmental issues. There is momentum building towards a more a more just and sustainable country, but there is still much work to be done, and we are so excited to be supporting that conversation.

UPDATES ON PERKS

Because of the feedback from audiences across Canada, our festival run has extended (look below for January and February dates!). Due to requirements around distribution and festivals, this means we must push the release date for the film’s digital, BluRay and DVD versions.

We certainly have not forgotten about the promises we made to you, and we will let you know the moment we are able to get you copies. If you have a pressing need to obtain a copy, please do not hesitate to be in touch. In the meantime, we are working on getting the limited edition posters, bags and photos printed and ready to ship along with your copy of the film as soon as its ready. We will be updating you on that as we move forward. Thank you so much for your patience and understanding!
